Irache Monastery

Its location on the Camino de Santiago, near Estella, makes it a must-stop for pilgrims. The construction of Irache Monastery began in the 11th century at the request of King García of Nájera, built over an earlier monastery dating back to the 8th century.

The monastery was inhabited by Benedictine monks until 1985, which has helped preserve it in good condition.

Access to the monastery can be made through two Romanesque doorways: the San Pedro portal and the main entrance, both carved with historical motifs. Notably, there is the Preciosa door, which connects the Plateresque cloister with the Romanesque church (12th century) and features images of the Savior and Mary.

Additionally, visitors are encouraged to see the Herrerian-style tower and other buildings constructed between the 16th and 19th centuries.
